The purpose of life is to remain in existence

Meaning of Life

Having come into existence, the purpose of life is to remain in existence…[read the book]

The author emphasises the biological metaphor. He speaks of life as a Platonic form with reference to genetic evolutionary theory. I don’t see how use of such abstraction can answer the question of my particular purpose or meaning of life as a more-than-biological entity. We have a will to live, reproduce and adapt to our environment – no doubt, but I think we have more wills than that, or at least our will cannot be simply reduced to these instincts with gutting much of the meaning we can obtain from life. The book sounds interesting however, I guess I’ll have to read it…
