The self

Self is socially constructed (Hegel, Camus). I do not exist as a self except in relation to others. However, I cannot deny selfhood because the fact of the matter is that I am naturally a social animal and the views of others influence and convict me, despite any attempt to deny this.

Hence, I need an ethical self. Crass Western individualism is fraudulent and brings sickness of self. The nature of hedonism brings with it pain along with pleasure.

Buddhism and Christianity will mold my ethical self.
